While doing some work on the recent bean project, I snapped some pictures of our veggies growing happily in the summer heat.
We’ve been harvesting zucchini and yellow squash for a couple weeks now. We’re just getting into the “squash coming out of our ears” phase. Interestingly, the yellow squash starter we brought home from the local nursery has almost split into 3 clusters, 2 produce yellow squash and the 3rd produces Romanesco zucchini. In addition to that we have 2 zucchini plants.
On our 4 bell pepper plants we’ve got nearly 20 baby peppers with the 2 pictured above the largest. These plants have remained pretty short, we’ll see if that has an affect on the size of the peppers.
On the right half of our cucumber plant we’ve got 4 tiny little cukes.
And, in my opinion, quite possibly the number one reason to garden in the summer: homegrown tomatoes! Boat loads of green ones, and one lone almost ready red guy.
We also picked about 3/4 of a cup of perfectly ripe, super sweet blueberries from our highbush blueberry bushes. These rarely make it back to the house.
